Number Baseball · Rules and strategy
Number Baseball is a deduction puzzle that reveals whether digits are present and correctly placed without showing the answer. Learn with 3 digits or try the 4-digit challenge.
Read strikes and balls
Each digit is used once. S counts digits in the correct position; B counts digits present elsewhere in the answer. The sum of S and B is the number of digits shared by your guess and the secret. Zero is allowed in the first position.
Use your 10 attempts
Guesses stay in a numbered history. Start with distinct digits to test which ones are present, then narrow down their positions. Only a valid new guess uses an attempt. A correct tenth guess still wins.
Input and session progress
Type the selected number of digits using ordinary 0–9 keys. Spaces, full-width numerals, and repeated digits are rejected. The answer appears when the game ends. Reloading or changing language clears progress, and no score is submitted to a server leaderboard.
Worked example
If the secret is 0123 and the guess is 0245, 0 is in the correct position and 2 appears elsewhere. The result is 1S 1B.
Frequently asked questions
Can the first digit be zero?
Yes. Answers and guesses such as 012 or 0123 are allowed. A digit may not appear twice.
Does an invalid entry use an attempt?
No. Incorrect length, repeated digits, spaces, and an identical previously submitted guess do not use an attempt.
Can I resume later or play online against someone?
Progress lasts only in the current tab. Reloading, changing language, or starting a new game clears it. Online matches and server score storage are not provided.
