WIN-J TOOLS
Add page numbers to PDF
Number a selected range of PDF pages. Skip a cover, set the starting number, position, font size and margin, then save a new PDF.
Result
Files and inputs are processed in your browser without being sent to the server.
How to use
- Choose an unencrypted PDF of up to 30 MiB and 200 pages.
- Set the physical page range and starting number, then choose the position and display format.
- Download the numbered copy and check that the numbers do not overlap the original content.
Example
In a five-page PDF, select physical pages 2–4, starting number 7 and “Number / last number”. Those pages receive 7 / 9, 8 / 9 and 9 / 9. The cover and page 5 remain included and unchanged.
Method and limitations
The range counts the first physical page in the PDF as page 1. Consecutive numbers are added only to the selected range; the saved copy includes all original pages. The denominator in “Number / last number” is starting number + selected page count − 1. Font size is 8–36 pt and margin is 8–72 pt. Positions account for page rotation and the crop area. Only numbers are added; existing page numbers are not removed. Encrypted PDFs are unsupported. Your original file is untouched, but digital signatures in the new file are invalidated.
Frequently asked questions
How do I skip the cover and start the body at 1?
Set the first page to 2 and the starting number to 1. Only the body through the last selected page is numbered; the cover remains in the output PDF.
What is the denominator in “Number / last number”?
It is the last number assigned to the selected range. Numbering physical pages 2–4 from 7 displays 7 / 9 through 9 / 9. It is not the total number of pages in the source PDF.
Does it replace old numbers or overwrite the original?
It creates a copy with numbers added over existing pages. Neither your original file nor old numbers are erased, so check the output for overlapping text.
Are files or names stored on the server?
Files and inputs are processed only in your browser without being uploaded or stored on the server. Reloading the page clears your workspace.
