CSV row and column transposer

Transpose CSV or TSV rows and columns. Preserve quoted delimiters, multiline cells and empty values, then review, copy or download the transposed table.

Free to useInput data is processed in this browser

UTF-8 CSV, TSV, TXT and JSON are supported. Selecting a file replaces the input; conversion starts only when you press Run.

Input and output are each limited to 2 MiB of UTF-8 text. CSV supports 10,000 rows and 200 columns, including transposed output. JSON allows depth 64 and 100,000 nodes; flattening allows 10,000 paths.

Formula protection adds an apostrophe before risky leading characters, tabs or newlines. This changes values, including negative numbers, and cannot guarantee protection after a spreadsheet is saved and reopened. Disable it only when you need unchanged values and can check the output.

How to use

  1. Review the example, then paste input or import a UTF-8 text file.
  2. Choose conversion options as explained below and press Run.
  3. Review the full output and preview before copying or downloading.

Worked example

A 2-row by 3-column table becomes 3 rows by 2 columns. The first column of an item, January and February table becomes its first row.

Method and limits

All cells are transposed, including the first row; headers have no special role. Empty cells are retained and uneven row widths are rejected. Output also has a 200-column limit, so input is at most 200 rows by 200 columns. XLSX files and formula evaluation are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Are empty cells and multiline values preserved?

Yes. Empty cells and quoted line breaks remain values. Uneven widths and malformed quotes produce errors rather than automatic repairs.

Is the input file uploaded to a server?

This tool processes input text and file contents in browser memory without sending them to a server. Refreshing discards the work. This is separate from ordinary site visit statistics.
