Merge Excel files and sheets

Combine sheets from multiple XLSX or XLS files into one table, or keep them as separate sheets in one workbook. Align headings and add source file and sheet columns.

When using the first row as headings, trimmed headings must be unique and match. Columns are aligned by heading even if their order differs.

How to use

  1. Choose XLSX or XLS files, then select the sheets and their order.
  2. Choose one combined sheet or separate sheets. When combining into one, set the first-row heading and source-column options.
  3. Review the output row and sheet counts, then download the XLSX file.

Example

If the “Orders” sheets in January.xlsx and February.xlsx both have Item and Quantity columns, merge them into one table using the first row as headings. Columns align by heading even if their order differs; source file and sheet columns identify each row’s origin.

Method and limitations

Reads up to 10 XLSX or XLS files totaling 30 MiB and exports XLSX. The entire loaded input is limited to 30 sheets, 50,000 rows and 500,000 cells, with at most 256 columns per sheet. Unselected sheets also count toward these input limits. With headings enabled, trimmed headings must be nonblank, unique and identical across sheets; columns follow the first sheet’s heading order. Without headings, columns are combined by position. Only cell values are exported; formulas use cached results saved in the source file. A formula without a cached result stops processing, so recalculate and save the workbook in Excel or another spreadsheet editor first. Formatting, charts, macros and formulas themselves are not preserved. Separate-sheet mode does not align headings or add source columns. Output row counts include heading rows. Password-protected files are unsupported.

Frequently asked questions

Can I merge files with a different column order?

With first-row headings enabled, leading and trailing spaces are removed and columns are matched by name. Different, blank or duplicate headings cause an error. Turn headings off to combine columns by position instead.

Are formulas and formatting preserved?

The output contains cell values only. Formula cells use cached results stored in the source file. A formula without a cached result stops processing; recalculate and save the workbook in Excel or another spreadsheet editor before selecting it. Formulas, formatting, charts and macros are not copied.

Can I tell which file each row came from?

In one-sheet mode, enable source columns to add “Source file” and “Source sheet”. Separate-sheet mode keeps individual sheets and does not add these columns.

Are files or names stored on the server?

Files and inputs are processed only in your browser without being uploaded or stored on the server. Reloading the page clears your workspace.
