The limit does not enlarge a smaller image. JPEG encoding still changes its file size.
How it works
The server decodes the primary image, applies EXIF orientation, optionally downsizes it and encodes an RGB JPG. Transparent areas use the chosen background. Quality is bounded to 40–100; the interface offers original size or 4096, 2048 and 1280 px limits.
Limitations
- JPG is lossy even at quality 100 and has no transparency.
- Multi-image files and Live Photos export one primary still image.
- HDR and wide-gamut colors may change when converted to an 8-bit JPG.
Your data
The photo is uploaded to the server for conversion. No permanent photo history is created. Source EXIF is not copied to the JPG; an ICC color profile may be retained. Use a local converter for photos you cannot upload.

Frequently asked questions
Will a 1280 px limit enlarge an 800 px photo?
No. It only shrinks photos whose long edge exceeds the selected limit.
Is this a lossless conversion?
No. JPG compression can change pixels, and HDR or color rendering can differ.
Are location tags copied?
Source EXIF metadata is not copied. Visible information in the picture itself remains.
