Both references place the unrounded value in the normal category.

Example 2

Different categories

Input
165 cm; 70 kg
Result
BMI 25.7

This is overweight in the international reference and obesity in the Korean reference.

How it works

BMI = weight in kg / height in metres squared. International thresholds are 18.5, 25 and 30; Korean thresholds are 18.5, 23 and 25. Categories use the unrounded value. The displayed reference weight band uses BMI 18.5–24.9 or 18.5–22.9 multiplied by height squared.

Limitations

  • Adult screening only; children need age- and sex-specific growth references.
  • Muscle mass, pregnancy and other conditions can make BMI less informative.
  • The weight band is not an individual weight-loss or weight-gain target.
  • Accepts 50–250 cm and 10–300 kg; input limits do not establish clinical suitability.

Frequently asked questions

Why can a rounded BMI look like a boundary?

A value of 24.96 displays as 25.0 but remains below 25 before rounding. Classification uses the unrounded result.

Which reference opens by default?

English, Japanese and Chinese open the international reference; Korean opens the Korean adult reference. You can change it.

Does normal BMI establish good health?

No. BMI does not assess body composition, blood pressure or other individual risk factors.
