WIN-J TEXT & DEVELOPMENT
Text line numberer
Add line numbers with a custom start, increment, zero padding and separator. Preserve blank lines and choose whether they receive a number.
Result
Numbers are added as actual text. Existing numbers in the source are not detected or removed automatically.
How to use
- Paste the text to number, one line at a time.
- Set the start, increment, minimum digits and separator.
- Choose blank-line handling and review the first and last numbers.
Example
Start 1, increment 1, minimum 2 digits and separator ". " produce 01. Introduction and 02. Details. Skipped blank lines do not increment the number.
Method and limits
Start and increment must be integers within ±9,007,199,254,740,991. If any generated number exceeds that range, the tool reports an error rather than a partial result. Padding counts digits without the sign and never cuts off a number. Original line endings are preserved; the separator allows up to 400 UTF-8 bytes. Browser text areas may normalize pasted line endings to LF; processing preserves the endings available in the input control.
Frequently asked questions
Do blank lines consume numbers?
When skipping is enabled, blank lines remain unchanged and the next content line gets the next number.
Can numbering decrease or start negative?
Yes. Negative starts, negative increments and zero increments are supported within the safe integer range.
