Inputs and measurements stay on this page. Reloading clears the records.

How to use

  1. Press the left mouse button inside the test area.
  2. Keep holding while moving in different directions and watch the trail.
  3. Release and review time, distance and the end reason. Repeat the same movement to compare.

Example

Holding for five seconds then releasing shows about five seconds and a button-release ending. Switching windows records a cancellation.

Method and interpretation

Pointer capture tracks a drag beyond the area. Distance sums on-screen coordinate changes; the visible trail retains up to 1600 recent points.

Distance in CSS pixels is not physical desk distance or sensor resolution. An intentional release cannot be distinguished automatically from switch failure.

Frequently asked questions

Does a broken trail mean a faulty mouse?

Button release, lost focus or cancelled input can also cause this. Check the ending reason and compare with another application.

Does it continue outside the area?

Yes, while the browser retains pointer capture. A window switch or lost capture is recorded as a cancellation.
