Aspect ratio calculator
Reduce an image or video’s dimensions to a ratio and calculate a new height while preserving proportions. Useful when preparing 16:9, 4:3 or square dimensions.

This tool does not send entered values or selected files to a server. Save any results you need before closing the tab.
How to use
- Enter the original width and height in pixels.
- Enter the new width you want to use.
- Read the reduced ratio, new integer height and unrounded value.
Worked example
1920×1080 reduces to 16:9. A width of 1280 gives a height of 720 px. At a width of 1000, the exact height is 562.5 px and the rounded height is 563 px.
Method and limitations
The ratio divides both dimensions by their greatest common divisor. New height = new width × original height ÷ original width. Pixel output rounds to the nearest integer, with a minimum of 1 px.
Dimensions must be positive integers from 1 to 1,000,000. This tool calculates dimensions rather than editing an image. Rounding can introduce a small ratio difference.
Frequently asked questions
Can it turn a non-16:9 photo into 16:9?
The calculation preserves the original proportions. A different ratio requires cropping or padding. Independently stretching width and height distorts the image.
