Screen PPI and pixel density calculator
Calculate screen PPI, pixel pitch and physical display width and height from pixel resolution and diagonal size. Supports inches and centimetres.
Results
PPI is the physical pixel density of the screen. It is distinct from printer DPI, operating-system scaling and CSS 96px/in, and is not a direct visual-quality score.
How to use
- Enter the horizontal and vertical pixel counts, such as 1920 and 1080.
- Enter the diagonal of the active display area, excluding bezels, and its unit.
- Calculate to view PPI, pixel pitch and display dimensions, then copy or save the results.
Worked example
A 1920×1080, 24-inch display is approximately 91.7878 PPI and about 53.13 cm wide.
Method and limits
Width and height accept integers from 1 to 1,000,000 pixels; diagonal accepts 0.01–1,000,000 inches or cm. PPI=√(width²+height²)/diagonal(in), with 1 in=2.54 cm. A flat rectangular active area and square pixels are assumed.
Questions and answers
Are PPI and DPI the same?
PPI counts pixels per inch, while DPI usually counts printed dots per inch. This tool calculates screen PPI.
Is this exact for curved screens or nonsquare pixels?
The calculation assumes a flat rectangle and square pixels. For other geometries, check the manufacturer’s active-area dimensions and specifications.
