Layout checks

These are 2D footprint checks. They do not guarantee walking space, structural suitability or installation clearance.

Save plan

Save a JSON backup to continue later. PNG contains the current 2D plan.

Back up JSON

Import this tool’s JSON backup, up to 256 KiB. Your plan stays in this browser until you save it.

How to use

  1. Measure the room inside the walls and enter its width and depth. Choose cm or m for display.
  2. Set each door or window’s wall, offset and width, plus door swing direction.
  3. Add furniture with its dimensions, then move or rotate it on the plan or enter exact coordinates.
  4. Review the layout checks and prepare a PNG image. Save a JSON backup to continue editing later.

Example

The sample room measures 4.2 m by 3.4 m, giving an area of 14.28 m². Its bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and sofa cover 5.2025 m², leaving 9.0775 m² of uncovered floor inside the room. If furniture overlaps, the shared area is counted only once.

Method and limitations

A 2D top view of one rectangular room and rectangular furniture. Supports room sides of 50–3,000 cm, furniture dimensions of 1–1,500 cm, up to 60 pieces and 20 openings. X/Y locate the top-left corner of the rotated furniture bounds; width and depth swap at 90° and 270°. Occupied area is the union of furniture rectangles clipped to the room, so overlaps are not counted twice. Uncovered area is room area minus that union, not a measure of passage width. Inward doors use a 90° sector with the opening width as its radius to check furniture overlap. Ceiling height, wall thickness, window height, furniture doors and drawers, delivery routes and irregular rooms are excluded. Plans are not saved automatically. JSON backups may be up to 256 KiB.

Frequently asked questions

Does switching units change furniture sizes?

Only the display unit changes. The plan keeps its physical dimensions in centimetres; switching to metres displays the same lengths in metres.

Are overlapping pieces counted twice in the area?

No. The calculator uses the union of furniture footprints inside the room. Parts outside the room are excluded from the occupied area.

Does no door warning mean the door can open fully?

The tool compares only a simple inward 90° opening sector. Hinges, handles, door thickness and installation tolerances are excluded, so check actual measurements.

How can I edit the plan later?

Save a JSON backup and import it into this tool later. A PNG is for viewing and sharing and does not restore the editable plan.
