TV size, viewing distance and installation space comparison

Compare the screen width, height and area of 55, 65, 75 and 85 inch TVs. Enter your space and viewing distance, then add actual body and stand dimensions to check the remaining clearances.

Free · no installationYour inputs are processed in this browser.

Input settings

All lengths are in cm. Enter the actual usable space. Leave furniture depth blank to skip the stand-depth comparison.

TVs to compare

The diagonal and aspect ratio describe the screen. Enter body width and height together. For stand installation, use total height with the stand and the manufacturer’s required stand depth.

How to use

  1. Enter available width, height and viewing distance. Furniture depth is optional.
  2. Set the aspect ratio and TV diagonals. Add actual overall body and stand dimensions when available.
  3. Calculate, then use the size buttons to highlight a TV in the diagram and summary.
  4. Distinguish screen-only references from body measurements, then save the CSV or SVG.

Example

A 65 inch 16:9 screen is about 143.90×80.94 cm, with approximately 39.67% more screen area than a 55 inch screen. The calculated screen fits a 160×100 cm front space, but actual product and stand dimensions are still needed for installation checks.

Method and limitations

Diagonal cm = inches×2.54. Screen width = diagonal×ratio width÷√(ratio width²+ratio height²); height follows the same rule. Area = width×height÷10,000 m². Horizontal field of view = 2×atan(screen width÷(2×distance)); distance for an angle = screen width÷(2×tan(angle÷2)). Every TV uses the same aspect ratio, and the first row is the area/width comparison reference. Supports up to 6 TVs,20–150 inches. Body width and height must be entered together; rounded specifications may be up to0.5 cm smaller than the screen calculation. Missing body dimensions produce a screen-only reference. Stand depth is compared only when both depths are supplied. Product specifications are not looked up automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the width differ from the product specification?

The default calculation is the visible screen. Bezels, stands and external bodies differ between models; enter actual overall body width and height separately.

Does fitting the dimensions prove installation is possible?

This compares entered lengths. Ventilation, mounting parts, furniture load capacity and stand width must be checked against product and furniture instructions.

Are the 30° and40° distances recommended viewing distances?

They are geometric distances for those horizontal viewing angles. Resolution, content and personal preference are not assessed.
