Wallpaper roll calculator
Estimate wallpaper rolls from full-height strips, trimming allowances and straight pattern repeats. Review wall details, proposed roll cuts, spare rolls and optional material cost.
Results
The longest-first, best-fitting roll plan is an estimate, not a guarantee of the fewest rolls. Remainders are separate offcuts, not one continuous reusable length. Spares are added after packing.
How to use
- Choose wall and roll units and enter the roll dimensions.
- Choose the pattern match, repeat and trimming allowances.
- Add each wall's full width and height and choose spare rolls.
- Calculate, review each roll's cuts and copy or export the estimate.
Example
A 4.2 × 2.4 m wall with 0.53 × 10.05 m rolls, 5 cm trims at each end and a 32 cm straight repeat needs 8 cuts of 2.56 m. The plan uses 3 rolls; 1 spare gives 4 purchase rolls.
Method and limitations
Wall strip count = ceil(wall width ÷ roll width). Cut length = height + top trim + bottom trim; straight matching rounds up to a whole pattern repeat, while plain matching ignores repeat. Longest cuts are placed in the fitting roll with the least remaining space; otherwise a new roll is opened. This heuristic does not guarantee the minimum roll count. All usable roll starts are assumed to have the same pattern phase; allow for actual initial motif position separately. Opening offcut reuse, half-drop, offset, A/B, defects and batch colour differences are excluded. Limits: 1–50 walls, 2,000 strips; wall width 100 m, height 20 m; roll width 10 m, length 1,000 m.
Frequently asked questions
Why are windows and doors not deducted?
A full-height strip may still be needed around an opening. Review the complete-width estimate against the actual installation layout.
Does this support half-drop patterns?
Only plain/free and straight match are supported. Alternating offsets require a different cutting plan.
Can all unused length be reused?
It is a sum of separate roll remainders. Check individual offcut lengths and add the spare rolls you need.
