Tile and deck-tile quantity calculator

Estimate tile pieces and boxes for multiple spaces. Set tile size, waste, joints and optional box price; distinguish area-based purchasing from a straight-grid reference.

Free · no installationYour inputs are processed in this browser.

Input settings

Area mode estimates from combined tile face area. If offcuts cannot be reused or the space is small, select grid mode to allow one tile per placement. Both pre-extra quantities are shown.

Choose room and tile units separately. Unit changes reinterpret existing numbers; joints are always mm. Blank prices remain unentered, not zero.

Space dimensions

Split the area into up to 50 rectangles. The straight grid uses the entered tile orientation; use the product installation gap for deck tiles.

How to use

  1. Select room and tile units and enter one tile length and width.
  2. Add rectangular spaces, joint width, waste and tiles per box.
  3. Enter a box price only if you want a cost estimate.
  4. Review required pieces and boxes for the selected basis, compare both original quantities, and export CSV.

Example

For 3×2m, 30×30cm tiles, 10% extra and 10 tiles per box: 74 required pieces, 8 boxes / 80 purchased pieces. A 3mm-joint grid is 10×7=70 reference pieces.

Method and limitations

Area mode does not subtract joints and may undercount placements in small spaces or when offcuts cannot be reused. A 0.35×0.35m space with 30cm tiles and no gap rounds to 2 area-based pieces but 4 grid pieces. Each grid direction uses ceil((space+joint)/(tile+joint)). Check orientation, cut suitability and edge clearance on site. Tile dimensions 1mm–10m, spaces up to 1000m per side, extra 0–100%.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose area or grid mode?

Use area mode for an area estimate when offcuts can be reused. Consider grid mode if offcuts cannot be reused or each deck-tile placement needs a whole piece. Extra is applied once to the selected original quantity.

Which quantities change when the joint width changes?

Only the original grid count uses joints. Area-based purchasing stays the same; purchasing may change when grid mode is selected.

Can I use deck tiles?

Yes for equal rectangular pieces. Check product requirements for connectors, wall clearance and cut edges.

Does a blank price mean zero cost?

No. Cost is marked not entered. Adhesive, grout and labor are excluded.
