WIN-J COOKING & BAKING
Coffee brew ratio calculator
Calculate coffee and water weights from the ratio of coffee to total input water. For iced coffee, split the total water into brewing water and ice.
Calculation result
Total water in the ratio includes ice. Results are input amounts and may differ from the weight of the finished coffee.
How to use
- Choose whether you know total input water or coffee weight, then enter that weight and its unit.
- Enter total input water per one part coffee. For 1:16, enter 16 in the ratio field.
- For iced coffee, enter the share of total input water supplied as ice. Review coffee, total water, brewing water and ice weights.
Calculation example
Total input water of 320 g at coffee:water = 1:16 needs 20 g of coffee. An ice share of 40% splits the 320 g into 192 g of brewing water and 128 g of ice.
Method and limits
Coffee weight = total input water ÷ ratio. When coffee weight is entered, total water = coffee × ratio. Ice = total water × ice share; brewing water = total water − ice. Water means the water and ice introduced before brewing, not the finished beverage weight. Water retained by grounds, evaporation, extraction yield, taste and suitable temperature are not calculated. Input weight must be greater than zero and no more than 1,000,000,000, ratio 1–100, and ice share 0–100%. Inputs in g or kg are converted to g.
Frequently asked questions
Does 1:16 mean 16 g of finished coffee?
It means 16 g of total input water per 1 g of coffee. Water retained by the grounds and evaporation can reduce the finished beverage weight.
Does 40% ice change the overall brew ratio?
The ratio of coffee to total water is unchanged, with 40% of that water supplied as ice. Less hot water is poured, so grind size and brewing conditions need separate adjustment.
Does it recommend the best-tasting ratio?
This tool converts your selected ratio into weights. The 1:16 example explains the calculation; choose a ratio for your coffee, preferences and brewing method.
