WIN-J COOKING TOOLS
Recipe cost calculator
Calculate recipe costs and selling prices from ingredient prices, yields and quantities. Write cooking steps, save on your device and export recipes as JSON or PDF.
Calculation result
Entered cost includes ingredient costs plus extra costs. A target cost percentage is not a profit margin. Unentered labor, rent, tax and other costs and net profit are not calculated.
The PDF is generated on your device as images of the current recipe. Its text cannot be selected or searched. Save the recipe file (JSON) to edit it again.
How to use
- Enter a recipe name, servings, target cost percentage and sales fee.
- Add each ingredient's purchase price, purchase quantity, yield and quantity needed. Write the cooking steps.
- Review the costs and prices, then save on this device or export a JSON recipe file or PDF.
Calculation example
The example ingredients total KRW 1,545. For one serving at a 33% target cost percentage, 1,545 ÷ 0.33 = about KRW 4,681.82. Including a 10% sales fee gives 1,545 ÷ 0.33 ÷ 0.9 = about KRW 5,202.02.
Method and limits
Ingredient cost = purchase price × quantity needed ÷ (purchase quantity × yield fraction). Cost per serving C = (ingredient total + extra costs) ÷ servings. With target cost fraction t and fee fraction f, suggested price = C ÷ t, fee-adjusted price = C ÷ t ÷ (1−f), and break-even price for entered costs = C ÷ (1−f). The target cost percentage uses entered costs including extras. Supports up to 100 ingredients and 200 characters per name. Intermediate amounts are not rounded; displayed results are rounded. No currency conversion is performed. The fee-adjusted price applies the target cost percentage to revenue after fees. The cost percentage at an actual price uses the price before fees as the denominator. Optional target margin m is the share of the selling price left after entered costs and fees. Price at target margin = C ÷ (1−f−m), and actual margin = (price × (1−f) − C) ÷ price × 100. This margin excludes unentered costs and is not a net profit margin. Recipe names support 120 characters, cooking instructions up to 50 steps of 1,000 characters each, UTF-8 JSON files up to 128 KiB, and PDFs up to 30 pages.
Frequently asked questions
Is target cost percentage the same as target profit margin?
No. A 33% target cost percentage means the entered cost per serving is 33% of the suggested price. The remainder is not net profit; unentered costs still need to be considered.
Why divide for a 10% fee instead of adding 10%?
A fee of 10% of the final price leaves 90% of that price. Divide by 0.9 to retain the required amount. Adding 10% does not retain that amount after the fee is deducted.
How do PDF and recipe files differ?
The PDF is an image document for reading or printing in the kitchen. Editable values and cooking steps are saved in a JSON recipe file that this tool can reopen.
Can I open a saved recipe on another device?
Device saves stay in the current browser. To move a recipe, export its JSON file and open that file on the other device.
Can I enter a target profit percentage?
Use the optional target margin. It is the share of the selling price remaining after the entered cost and sales fee are deducted. It excludes unentered labor, rent, tax and other costs, so it is not a net profit margin.
